EirtaKon was the first anime convention held in the Republic of Ireland, *[1]
Origin
The idea of running an Irish anime con was suggested by Art Wolf in 2004. The DCUAMS was founded by Art Wolf, Archeotech, CuLT and several other students of DCU in order to provide a platform for the event.
Name
The idea behind the name was, CuLT claimed, simple in premise; Eire + Otaku + Convention.
There were reservations, primarily because it isn't instantly recognizable what "EirtaKon" actually stands for or even infers without some knowledge of the pre-existing Irish anime community.
